Tailored Tee

Collars are somewhat overrated (except for the pork or hamachi kind). Sometimes the best way to dress down a sport coat is to wear a collarless shirt. In the look above, you can’t see the sneakers being worn. But the chinos are black, the sport is a black stretch flannel with casual pockets and the tee shirt is our robust cotton in, you guessed it, black. And again, the look is finished with sneakers.

The mix of highs and lows is always alluring. You’ll notice there’s no belt. The look is also monochromatic. Everything is fitted and proportional (it’s not overtly Belgian or Tokyoite with one of the garments being oversized). Had this look happened upon a funeral, it wouldn’t look out of place (although it would look disrespectful). But it’s appropriate for a dinner date, or a meeting, or a quick business trip.

Next time you think about dressing your sport coat up, think about dressing it down. Ditch the collar.
